Essential Information

The Isaiah Berlin Literary Trust (IBLT)

The Isaiah Berlin Literary Trust is responsible for all aspects of Berlin's literary estate.  It was established by Berlin in the last year of his life, and he gave to it his papers and his copyrights. His papers were to pass to the Bodleian Library, Oxford, after his death, and in 1999 they were deposited there: Michael Hughes' Catalogue of the Papers of Sir Isaiah Berlin, 1897-1998 is available online (here).

The Trustees of the Isaiah Berlin Literary Trust are Peter Halban, Henry Hardy, Avishai Margalit, Alan Ryan and Patricia Williams. All correspondence intended for Trustees or the Trust may be sent to the Isaiah Berlin Legacy Fellow at Wolfson College, Oxford, OX2 6UD, UK, or by email via berlin@wolfson.ox.ac.uk.

Isaiah Berlin Online (IBO)

Isaiah Berlin Online functions under the auspices of the Isaiah Berlin Literary Trust. It has been built by the Isaiah Berlin Legacy Project at Wolfson College, Oxford, in partnership with Olamalu web design, of Witney, Oxfordshire.

Isaiah Berlin Online aims to be a work of reference: its primary responsibility is to provide accurate information, and at its heart is a unified and searchable catalogue of Berlin's publications, broadcasts, and interviews. But the website is also meant to be an interdisciplinary gateway for anyone interested in any aspect of Berlin’s life and works. It is an educational resource, encouraging a fuller appreciation of Berlin's life, and an interest in the broad range of ideas in which he was himself interested. It hosts the Isaiah Berlin Image Database (IBID).

All enquiries, comments, or suggestions relating to the site and its content should be sent to the Isaiah Berlin Legacy Fellow at Wolfson College, Oxford: berlin@wolfson.ox.ac.uk.

The Isaiah Berlin Legacy Project (IBLP)

The Isaiah Berlin Legacy Project at Wolfson College, Oxford, was created by the Isaiah Berlin Literary Trust in 2015. Its director is the Isaiah Berlin Legacy Fellow. The Legacy Fellow is charged with ensuring that an understanding of Berlin's life and works is made accessible to as large and diverse an audience as possible. The project aims to make optimal use of digital media to give Berlin’s ideas their widest possible geographical and generational reach, while presenting them in a way that best serves the interests of the academic community and the enquiring non-specialist.

The Isaiah Berlin Legacy Project operates through a Trust Office in the heart of Wolfson College, where it curates the Isaiah Berlin Room in the Library there, and helps to administer the College's collection of Berlin's papers. It also has an educational function, undertaking outreach work, and it also supports the annual Isaiah Berlin Day in Riga, the city of Berlin's birth.
