‘The Cold War & the Canon of Liberalism’: the 2022 Carlyle Lectures at Oxford
Professor Samuel Moyn (Yale) gives the Carlyle Lectures at Oxford this term, on the theme of ‘The Cold War & the Canon of Liberalism’. The second lecture in the series, which begins on Tuesday 25 January, features the work of Isaiah Berlin.
The six lectures, which take place on Tuesdays at 17.00, are as follows:
- 25 January: Against the Enlightenment (Judith Shklar)
- 1 February: The Romantic Revolution (Isaiah Berlin)
- 8 February: The Terrors of Historical Progress (Karl Popper)
- 15 February: Jewish Christianity (Gertrude Himmelfarb)
- 22 February: White Freedom (Hannah Arendt)
- 1 March: The Garrisoned Self (Lionel Trilling)
