Letters 1928-1997

Isaiah Berlin was a prolific letter-writer, who conversed with a wide range of correspondents about an equally wide range of topics. He has been justly described as ‘one of the great witnesses of his age’, and his letters ‘one of the most important collections of correspondence of the [twentieth] century' (Duncan White, The Daily Telegraph, 20 July 2013). His letters have been published in four volumes: Flourishing, 1928-1946; Enlightening, 1946-1960; Building, 1960-1975; Affirming, 1975-1997. The best of the new material that has come to light since publication is made available online, alongside material previously excluded on grounds of space.
